Our Lady of Sion Penmaenmawr
In November 2004, Sister Carolyn Wicks moved to the Noddfa Spirituality Centre run by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary. Noddfa is a place of warm and generous hospitality where the sisters are always willing to go ‘the extra mile’ for their guests. To some small extent I have been able to share in this especially in Shalom, where I live with Judith and an elderly cat called Spooks. Shalom is used by families and individuals on holiday, and as an ‘overflow’ for guests from the Centre.
I am delighted to share in Noddfa’s retreat ministry by accompanying retreatants on their sacred journey, this is a very special privilege.
Some of my time is given to Colwyn Women’s Aid where I work as a volunteer. We work with women and children who have suffered or who are suffering from violence and abuse. Zoe and I run the Freedom Programme for women in the local area. This is a 12 week on-going course which enables the women to share their frequently painful stories; it helps them to regain their self esteem and confidence.
Saturday mornings are usually parish time as I lead a team of catechists who work and play with the First Communion and Post Communion children up to their Confirmation. This is quite a challenge, but also good fun.
I am passionate about the care and preservation of our planet, so that those who came after us can enjoy its beauty. I care deeply that the world’s resources should be shared equally among all people upon our earth.
Recently, I was asked to co-ordinate the vocations Network Team for our Province. This is vital work as we want to share the great gift of our Charism with as many people as possible.
I enjoy the beauty surrounding us here in Wales, the times of silence and stillness, Sionian Gatherings, walking, gentle gardening, creative activities and Circle Dance.
