Sion School celebrates our Feast

Staff and pupils at Our Lady of Sion School in Worthing celebrated Founder's Day by holding a service of thanksgiving in St. Mary of the Angles Church, adjacent to the school. All staff and pupils from the Senior School attended, along with pupils from Years 5 & 6 in the Junior School. The Junior School Festival Choir opened the service by singing 'YouRraise Me Up', which was followed by reflections of Sion by two Year 6 pupils. Tino Chiketa, a year 10 pupil then sang a spiritual 'Blessed Be the Name of the Lord'. Prayers for Peace from faiths around the world were then read out, including an Islamic prayer, read in Arabic by Arman Haque, from Year 7. Three Senior School pupils then read from St Paul's letter to the Corinthians, which was followed by the Senior School Choir singing 'Christian People Sing Together', and two sixth form pupils giving their memories of their years at Sion. A reading form the writing of the Sisters, about their arriving in Worthing, and the setting up of the school and convent, was followed by the congregation singing the hymn 'My Jesus, My Saviour'. The service concluded with a speech from Headmaster, Michael Scullion, and a prayer for the school, which was printed on bookmarks given out to all the pupils. After the service pupils were each given a bar of chocolate in celebration of the day

We pray that in this school
we begin a journey
that will help us grow
in understanding, respect and honour,
so that we may live
by the values of the school
