Province Pilgrimage to PolandDay 6 - Courage Today we visited the Warsaw Ghetto. In the afternoon we were privileged to meet Stanislaw Krajewski, a Jewish friend of Sion who is very involved in Jewish Christian Relations in Poland Lord, open our lips. And we shall declare your praise. Reflection At first my sister Dora and my brother Josek (smuggled) because I was too little. Sometimes they had to stand there all day without managing to get across. When they did get across and came home with the "loot" and a German caught them - he took everything. That was the worst because then mummy didn't have any more money for food. But there were days when Dora and Josek came home with food. Later I started to go across to the other side as well. I was so small no one paid any attention to me. The children who wouldn't get through to the other side suffered terribly from hunger. They lay there on the streets in rows, living and dead children." (From the memoir of a child smuggler, Marysia Szpiro in 1946 when she was 11.) I lift my eyes to the mountains, Where is help to come from? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. The Lord does not let our footsteps slip! Our guard does not sleep! The guardian of Israel Does not slumber or sleep. The Lord guards you from harm, Protects your lives; The Lord watches over your coming and going, Now and for always. (Psalm 121) May the memory of all our Jewish brothers and sisters endure, men, women and children who were murdered, slaughtered and burned. May they inspire truth and loyalty in our lives. May they rest in peace. Amen. |
