14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Isaiah 66:10-14 Psalm 65 Galatians 6:14-18 Luke 10:1-12; 17-20

The prophet Isaiah calls on the people of Israel to rejoice in the city of Jerusalem where they were living once again after the exile. He consoles them in their efforts to rebuild the city and the temple by telling them that Jerusalem, like a mother, will comfort them at her breasts, just as God comforts them and brings them peace. Not all the people are living justly, so Isaiah says that God's action will only be seen in those who are his servants i.e. who are righteous.

In the Gospel Luke tells us of a large group, sent out by Jesus to work in his name. Their mission was to prepare the way, to bring peace, to heal and to proclaim the kingdom. The disciples came back rejoicing, recognising that God's power had been at work in them.

God sends us out too, and gives us power through the Holy Spirit. This week let us reflect on our own mission and our calling to proclaim and serve the kingdom by bringing peace and healing to our homes and to the wider community.
