This week we hear the vision of the prophet Isaiah that God will gather together all nations to witness his glory. People will stream from all corners of the world to God's holy mountain in the city of Jerusalem which will survive destruction as a sign of God's presence. Luke picks up the theme of inclusion to speak about God's kingdom. In response to someone who asked a question about who would be saved, Jesus answered that those who were expected to be part of God's reign would not be but those who were not expected to be part would have a place. Let us stop this week and think about our own ideas of the kingdom. Do they chime with the vision of the prophet Isaiah to include all people and with the Jesus' words and actions favouring good, righteous people what ever their background? |
