Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18 Psalm 26 Philippians 3:17-4:1 Luke 9:28-36 This week we have a glimpse of the glory that awaits us in our heavenly home. Peter, James and John witnessed Jesus talking to Moses, who represented the Torah (God's teaching or Law), and Elijah, the representative of the Prophets. The apostles wanted to erect three tents for these three great people, reminiscent of the shelters God provided for the people of Israel in the wilderness. The cloud that descended on the apostles and the voice they heard are, like the mountain, signs of God's nearness. Clearly the apostles' experience was powerful and filled them with great awe. The same awe filled Abram when he heard God's promises to him. He put great faith in God's promise that he would be the father of a people and that he would inherit the land God was showing him. God made a covenant with Abram and set out the terms of the land he promised. What fills me with awe? Do I recognise God's presence in my life? We might not have such a dramatic experience as the apostles or receive such great promises as Abraham but God does afford us glimpses of his presence and glory in our lives - in creation, our children and the goodness in those around us. Let us reflect each day this week on the glory God has promised to share with us, the glory that Jesus embodied in himself. |
