Acts 5:27-32, 40-41 Psalm 29 Apocalypse 5:11- 14 John 21: 1-19 Peter preaches the good news about Jesus ever more strongly in spite of the fact that he has so recently denied knowing Jesus and in the face of opposition. Peter is able to declare that he and the other apostles are witnesses. This means that not only could they vouch for all the events of Jesus' life; they were also willing to imitate his life's journey even if it included suffering and death. The gospel tells how in one of his post resurrection appearances Jesus joins some of his disciples, back at their old working lives, on the shore of the lake. After eating breakfast with them Jesus challenges Peter three times about his commitment to him. Peter's reply shows that he is a changed man with a new trust in God empowering him beyond his wildest imaginations. How committed am I to my Christian life? Am I a witness in the true sense of the word? Let the risen Lord's words to Peter speak to you this week about your commitment to a life of love and service. Even if you have experienced failure, allow the Lord to give you new strength. |
