1 Samuel 26 Psalm 102 1 Corinthians 15: 45-49 Luke 6: 27-38 How do I relate to people I don't get on with or who treat me badly? Do I seek revenge or do I try to love them? Jesus teaches that we must love our enemies, do good to those who hate us, bless those who curse us and pray for those who treat us badly. This is radical teaching which seems to go against what is natural for us. This is why Paul says to the Christians in Corinth that they are to model themselves not on the earthly man but on the heavenly man, in other words, on Jesus Christ. Then, as the Gospel says, we shall truly be able to love, be generous and compassionate. Abishai tried to tempt David to take advantage over his enemy but David held back and received a blessing. Let us make a conscious effort this week to behave differently towards those who have treated us badly. Pray for those people and ask God's blessing on them. The results may surprise us; the gifts of God may be so great that our relationships are transformed! |
