Trinity Sunday

Exodus 34:4-6.8-9
Daniel 3:52-56
2 Corinthians 13:11-13
John 3:16-18

The focus of today's readings is the three persons in God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The first reading from the book of Exodus describes the revelation of God to Moses on Mount Sinai and proclaims that God is tender, compassionate, patient, kind and faithful. He is the God who first betrothed himself to the people of Israel and whom we too as Christians worship.

As Christians we believe that God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that everyone could have eternal life. The Gospel passage from John's gospel describes the conversation Jesus has with Nicodemus when Jesus explains that it is through the cross that God brings eternal life to the world.

The final words St Paul wrote in the letters we have to the Corinthians are in the full form of his customary blessing, trinitarian but not yet a dogmatic formula. The love flowing from God is manifest in the grace given by Christ which creates the common union of the Holy Spirit.

The Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit is a life-giving and dynamic force in Christian life. How aware are you of its life within you? Do you experience the strength of the love of others for you? Do you give the same love to others? This love is the trinity in action.

God is the source of the love we share. Worship God this week with the words from the book of Daniel, "To you glory and praise for evermore".
